Yemen oil installations attacks foiled
Yemen: Four suicide bombers have been killed after attempting to blow up two oil installations in the southeast of Yemen on Friday.
The suicide attempts took place around 5:30am local time and were foiled by security forces working at the oil installations.
Four rigged cars were blown up, killing the attackers, before they reached their targets. A guard was also killed.
“The Interior Ministry foiled early this morning two terrorist attacks involving four cars that targeted an oil exporting terminal in Hadramout and an oil refinery and gas production unit in Marib,” said an official statement.
The first incident targeted the Safer oil refinery in Ma'rab, while the second was aimed at oil storage depots at the Al-Dhabba terminal in Hadramout.
In the first attack, one of the suicide bombers was disguised as a military officer, while the second attacker was wearing the uniform of workers at the terminal.
The foiled attacks come just days before the presidential and municipal elections, which are due on September 20 and after Osama Bin Laden's deputy Ayman Al Zawahiri warned that the Gulf and Israel would be the next Al Qaida targets.
